This will be a 4 hour info packed Zoom session aimed at giving you an initial boost with drawing fur. I’ll be demonstrating and explaining the techniques live so you can draw along with me and ask any questions along the way. It is just like being in the room with me as I explain all about how to draw fur.
The workshop is aimed at giving you all the skills you need to produce a drawing of your own pet. I’ll give you instruction on how to get the best photographic reference to work from, how to get the basic drawing right, how to see values and most importantly how to achieve the effect of fur.
From this workshop, you’ll be tasked with producing a drawing of your own pet. Send me a photo of your drawing and you’ll get feedback from me at the Feedback workshop on May 29.

Over Zoom you will join me for a 2 hour group call, where I provide feedback to students on their pet drawings. During the call I use photoshop and a drawing tablet to sketch onto digital photos that students send in, so I can show you exactly what to focus on to improve your drawing.
You will learn heaps from this call, guaranteed. Not only will you learn from the feedback of your own drawing, but you will also learn heaps from other peoples experiences as well.
This 10 part (estimated) video course will take your fur drawing skills to a whole new level. Each lesson will focus in-depth on certain aspects of drawing fur. It will cover the same concepts as the live workshop, but go into much more detail about the techniques. You will have permanent access to the video lessons, so you can re-watch them as many times as you like.
I’ll be talking about different types of fur and demonstrating how to draw each type. We’ll cover short fur, medium fur, long fur, straight fur, curly fur, soft fur and coarse fur with techniques to represent each one. I’ll also demonstrate how to draw white animals, and black fur, examining the effects of light. We’ll also look at how to draw clumping, or matted fur as well as wet fur.
After this course you will be fully equipped to draw any type of animal in any situation. This may very well be the most detailed and comprehensive fur course to date.

You explain and demonstrate very well throughout the sessions. I am up to Lesson 53 and had not realised how long I have been participating in your art lessons. Murray’s lessons are thoroughly enjoyable classes from drawing, sketching, colouring and painting. There is a lot to art that until you ‘get into it’, you do not realise or understand at first. Murray guides well with achievable steps to not feel overwhelmed but encouraged to begin. Murray steps the learner through the principles of perspective, line, seeing, mark-making, colour theory and techniques for most mediums. Always enjoyable.
I am of senior years and have dabbled with art since my primary school years, mainly sketching and oil painting. In retirement I decided to improve my works as I realised that although receiving favourable comments from friends, I knew that my works were falling well short of the standard I knew I wanted to achieve. This is the reason I joined ALO… someone very close to me died, at the same time I was diagnosed with CFS and had to retire from teaching. Merlin told King Arthur when you are deeply saddened learn something new. I started a painting class. (This is charcoal and acrylic). I quickly realized I would need to learn to draw “welcome to my world Art Lessons Online!” DRAWING is a form of mindfulness that recharges the brain and nervous systems.
